A Breathtaking Night: young heroes thrill and amaze.

More than 600 supporters came out to the Catalog for Giving Urban Heroes Awards Benefit on October 29 at Chelsea Piers – the twelfth and most successful event in the Catalog's history. Emmy award-winner Bill Ritter of WABC-TV served as master of ceremonies and shared the spotlight with other celebrities including Judge Maria Lopez of the CW Network; Sade Baderinwa, also of WABC-TV; and Simon Doonan, of Barneys and VH1 fame.

As in past years, the food, auctions and setting were all upstaged by the ten young Urban Heroes who wowed the audience with true stories of transformation – how participating in the after-school programs supported by the Catalog for Giving had changed their lives forever. All ten had come from disadvantaged backgrounds and faced difficult life challenges. All ten had risen above adversity to become role models for their peers and communities, culminating in their selection as Urban Heroes by their respective organizations.

Also honored were New York City real estate attorney and philanthropist Nick Donovan, founder and senior partner of Donovan & Giannuzzi; and Nando Rodriguez, former Urban Hero and now Camp Director of the Open Road Park and Chapter Leader of The Brotherhood/Sister Sol, a past Catalog member agency.  Nando was bestowed The Catalog's 2007 'Urban Star Award' for achievement in life by a Catalog program graduate.

Event sponsors included Goldman Sachs, Citibank, UBS, Ernst & Young, HSBC, Khronos, the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust, the Blue Ridge Foundation, AT&T, among others.   Nearly $650,000 was raised to help The Catalog continue to transform young lives.

Look for your invitation to next year's Urban Heroes benefit – and prepare to be amazed!
